The Feasibility Of Mechas

The entertainment industry throws giant robots at any planet-threatening problem, from monsters from another dimension to cosmic horrors beyond imagination. Wouldn’t it be nice to have an enormous, armoured robot to protect us in the real world as well? In this talk, we will take a look at fictional giant robots and their various technological aspects and explore current related research to see if such machines are possible to build now or in the future.

Sofya is a recent electrical engineering graduate excited to join the industry. Her research interests include digital electronics and developmental robotics. Apart from engineering, she enjoys studying languages and 3D concept design.

Born in 1990 and raised on LAN parties, Flo still misses hauling a monitor the size of a small fridge into a warehouse packed with 200 gamers, sharing files before “The Pirate Bay” was even a thing. Today, he lives in Paphos and works as a customer success lead for a software company, where he puts out fires with a confident smile and a nice slide deck. He’s a food fanatic and outdoor enthusiast who believes camping just makes eating feel more exciting.

Expect laughter, practical tips, and a gentle reminder that sometimes, the cure really does grow right outside your door.

Miranda Tringis is a certified herbalist, founder of Cyherbia Botanical Park in Avgorou, and full-time enchantress of all things leafy and magical. She’s been blending teas and potions as well as hosting fantasy events at the park for over a decade, as well as offering workshops on herbal remedies, natural cosmetics, and how not to die in the woods. When she’s not decoding ancient plant wisdom or luring unsuspecting visitors into the Maze, she’s probably out in the open sea on her SUP board looking for shipwrecks and Cthulhu.

It’s actually happening, our first Nerd Nite here in Cyprus. We managed to secure the amazing Dusty Munky in central Limassol … on the Friday, 22.08.2025. So be there and be square!

Doors open 18:30 and the event begins at 19:00 (expect around 2-3h total runtime).
